The Comprehensive Community Cancer Program (CCCP) is a community section of the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI), located on upper Mulago hill, it is the only government health facility taking the lead in cancer control and prevention through spreading awareness on early detection measures, cardinal prevention interventions and compliancy to and advocacy for right cancer treatment to the people of Uganda. Though a mandate, as a the only cancer prevention and control facility in Uganda, was given to UCI including patient care, research, treatment and prevention of cancers and training, the institute has had limited action in the areas of community cancer awareness and screening since its inception in 1967, and in the year 2009, the government having granted the institute autonomy from the parent Mulago National Referral hospital, UCI started this Comprehensive Community Cancer Program. This program strives to facilitate communities at regional level with knowledge in cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment so that they can be able to do first hand intervention in cancer control and prevention. In addition to continued effort on cancer control and prevention the institute put up weekly cancer awareness and screening clinic for all cancers and all people (women, men and children of all ages) at the Uganda Cancer Institute in the out-patient premises, every Friday starting at 900am. Registration begins at 8:00 am and because of the high attendance always some people are told to come the Friday after on the criteria of first come first served.
As stated above in March 2009, Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) started a comprehensive community cancer program (CCCP) and through this program the Institute conducts:
1. Community outreach activities offering cancer awareness and education.
2. Free Community cancer screening services
3. Immunisation programs for selected cancers.
4. Radio and television talk shows
5. Weekly cancer awareness and screening clinic every Friday in the Institute's Out Patients' Department.
