Uganda to Mark World Cancer Day 2025 under the Theme “United in Goals, Unique Our Needs”
Mbarara, Uganda — The Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) will lead the nation in commemorating World Cancer Day 2025 on Tuesday, 4th February 2025, at Bwizibwera-Rutooma in Mbarara District. This year’s theme, “United in Goals, Unique Our Needs,” underscores the shared commitment to defeating cancer while addressing the unique healthcare needs of diverse communities.
The chief guest, Dr. Diana Atwiine, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, will join health experts, policymakers, and community members in advancing strategies to prevent and control cancer in Uganda.
Event Highlights
A variety of activities have been planned to ensure maximum community impact:
Cancer Screening Services: Free screenings for breast, cervical, and prostate cancer to promote early detection. NCD Screening and Awareness: Comprehensive health checks for hypertension, diabetes, and other non-communicable diseases. Educational Sessions: Expert-led discussions on cancer prevention, healthy lifestyles, and the benefits of early intervention. Community Voices: Testimonies from cancer survivors and their families to inspire hope and resilience.
A Call to Action
Cancer continues to be a leading cause of illness and death globally, including in Uganda.
